If you’re living in your own home or apartment while you’re in college, it can be an exciting adventure as it’s likely the first real taste of freedom that you’ve had. However, there are some things that you want to keep in mind that can make living in your own home a little easier.
Secure Your Housing
You want to start applying to UNT student housing as soon as possible. It could take a few weeks or even a few months for an apartment complex to contact you back, especially if there are no units available when you apply. You need to think about what you need while you’re in your home and some of the things that could increase the price that you pay for rent, such as a pool at the complex or a gym.
Paying Your Bills
When you’re settled into UNT student housing, consider making a list of all of the bills that you need to pay each month so that it’s displayed somewhere to clearly see. Ask the landlord if there are any utilities that are included in the rent, as this can save you a good bit of money. Keep in mind that if you need to connect utilities in your name, you might need to pay a deposit. Try to set up your bills on auto-draft so that you don’t have to worry about paying them as long as there’s money in your account. You also need to think about budgeting for groceries, gas, and other expenses that you have so that you set aside enough money for what you need.
